Short answer

The MLO exam is the national test for mortgage loan originators, the people who take mortgage applications. The Form 1-A records that Kevin passed it in the first quarter of 2026. Passing the exam is a step toward a license, not a license; the company has not announced a lending product and the filing does not commit to one. Read it as a capability the founder acquired ahead of a possible line of business. 1

  • Exam: MLO (mortgage loan originator, national test)

  • Passed: Q1 2026 (per the Form 1-A)

  • Lending product: None announced (no commitment in the filing)

The exam

Mortgage loan originators must pass the SAFE Act national test administered through the Nationwide Multistate Licensing System, then meet state licensing requirements, before originating loans. The Form 1-A records that Kevin passed the MLO exam in the first quarter of 2026. 1

What it enables

Nothing on its own. A license requires the exam plus state registration and, for a company, a licensed entity. The offering circular lists the exam among Kevin’s credentials and does not describe a lending business.

Why he might have taken it

The company’s stated interest is in undervalued real estate, whether for itself or for members using the Reinvest Terminal. Originating or brokering mortgages for those members would be a natural adjacent line, and it is the sort of item this site colors for the future. If the company announces a lending product, this page will say so with the filing that discloses it.

From the September 29, 2026 Q&A

Kevin’s account

We are in the approval process with the Department of Real Estate for the MLO license, but we do not have it yet. We have no intentions to start lending. We have no plans for that business, and we are not fundraising for that business. We view the lending license as a potential option in the future. 2

In his own videos

  • July 2026: House Hack is in the application phase for its mortgage loan originator license; he had passed the MLO test before and did it again this year for House Hack. 3

  • June 2026: licensed as a real estate lender twice. 4

He passed the mortgage exam in early 2026. The company has not said what, if anything, it will do with it. 1

Simply put

✅ What the exam is

  • ➡️ The national test you pass to become licensed to originate mortgages.

✅ What it is not

  • ➡️ A license by itself, or a product. Reinvest does not lend today.

✅ Why it might matter

  • ➡️ A company that buys, renovates and rents houses could one day finance them for others. Watch the filings.
