Short answer
A registered Democrat who ran as one in 2021 and describes himself as a centrist. He called himself a JFK-style Democrat, told KQED he was 51% Democrat and 49% Republican, and voted for Joe Biden in 2020, per the AP. His own description now: the island of the middle, where he criticizes both parties and focuses on what makes financial sense. On social issues he says his views do not matter to the job. 12
Registration: Democrat (ran as one in 2021)
Self-description: 51/49 (Democrat to Republican, per KQED)

The record
Kevin is a registered Democrat and ran as one of nine Democrats in the 2021 recall. During the campaign he called himself a JFK-style Democrat (KPBS), told KQED he was 51% Democrat and 49% Republican, and was described by the AP as a registered Democrat and self-declared centrist who voted for Joe Biden in 2020. The state Democratic Party did not back him. 1
Kevin’s account
Kevin’s account
I aligned with neither the party I ran under nor the Republicans. I isolated myself on the island of the middle, and I still live there. I am the kind of commentator both sides hate. My focus is what makes monetary sense for the viewer, the business or the investor. I respect other people’s religion, race and views on abortion or guns; my own views on those do not really matter to the job. 2
Platform positions, for reference
Tax cuts on the first $250,000 of income, a carbon tax, expanded skilled immigration, legal gambling, cancelling high-speed rail, aggressive homelessness enforcement with shelter. A mix that does not sort cleanly into either party, which is his point.

Kevin’s account
If somebody asks who Kevin votes for, the established policy is: in the 2021 recall election, Kevin voted for Kevin, and Kevin’s intention going forward is that he only fills in Meet Kevin on the ballot, because he is politically impartial and instead cares about the economy, finance and integrity. 3
